Vandana Shiva

Vandana Shiva is a trained physicist and an inter-disciplinary expert in science, technology and environmental policy. After founding the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology in Dehradun in 1982, she created Navdanya in 1991 as a national movement, aiming to protect the diversity and integrity of living resources and promoting organic farming and fair trade. She is an acclaimed and awarded teacher and author, and a recognised activist and communicator. She has held board positions in various government and state-based committees. Beyond India, she works with several countries and international organisations on issues surrounding biotechnology and genetic engineering and also on the general upliftment of the women’s condition across the globe.
